Fun on Jimmy’s Farm

What a lovely Bank Holiday weekend that was. Yes I am still thinking about it, even more so now that the rain has returned and the garden furniture returned to the shed.

I ended the weekend a bit sunburnt (and sober). Surely that is unheard of after a Bank Holiday.

We went the weekend in sunny Suffolk. Granted it didn’t start that well as the M25 was closed meaning that half the country escaping for a weekend away were diverted and we were sat in the middle of it. A 2hr drive took a rather painstaking 3.45hrs, which when you have a sweaty, restless 23 month old in the car, is NOT fun. However, Baby B was a trooper and a couple of apples and rice cakes later we arrived, desperate to stretch our legs.

Our friends live in a gorgeous gorgeous house in Suffolk and whilst I love them, I always leave a little bit depressed that I don’t live in their house, and will most likely never have a little rowing boat at the bottom of my garden.

Saturday afternoon was spent relaxing in the garden with ice cold rose, whilst the children played happily in the sun, arguing sporadically over whose turn it was to ride the tractor, and who was going to sit on the ledge in the Little Tikes house. The little things. The evening, a feast by the fire whilst watching the obligatory Saturday night television line up of Britain’s got Talent followed by The Voice.

We spent Sunday at Jimmy’s Farm in Ipswich. Now, we are biased as Jimmy and family are good friends, but I wanted to write about the farm as Baby B is now at an age where he can appreciate it, and boy did he.

B is farm animal obsessed. Every night we have to say goodnight to Old McDonald and his yard of animals. Each animals gets his own ‘night night’ which is lovely. I hear B’s very unique of Old McDonald on average 5 times a day and he carries around his cows with him wherever he goes, regularly stopping to give them a kiss when he can.

So you can imagine his immense excitement at being presented with a real life farm, complete with play areas, massive sandpit, a butterfly house, delicious restaurant and peacocks wondering around about the place. He is still saying ‘bye bye peacock’ 3 days later.

I think we have a farmer in the making. Well farmer by day and stealth bomber pilot by night. (He is still plane and helicopter obsessed but that is another post)

Overall, it was just a lovely weekend, perfect weather, amazing friends and chilled out parents. If only all Bank Holiday weekends could be like this eh.

If you are ever in Suffolk round Ipswich way, check out Jimmy’s Farm. There are loads of really fantastic family events going on over the summer and some rather civilised children free activities such as theatre in the forest and a night of classical delights at Proms at Jimmys .

Hope everyone had a lovely long weekend. Roll on the next one I say.
