Ranty Friday – The Joys of London Commuting

This is my first blog post for #Ranty Friday. It has been inspired by a week of commuting into London. I regularly work in London but can normally arrange to travel outside of commuter times. This week I was not so lucky & with my other half working away, I had the sole responsibility of getting Baby B ready, out the house & to nursery before heading to the station.

My rant is about the commuting in general. It is cut throat out there. You have to fend for yourself; don’t expect anyone to look out for you. It’s fast-moving, pushy and sweaty (although that may just be me).

Sadly, you do get the odd commuter that have a complete lack of manners – so it is to those commuters that I dedicate my Ranty Friday.

– Must you push past me on the escalator like we are racing to the bottom;

When you clip the back of my heel and knock off my flip-flop could you at least stop to say sorry;

– Have you ever thought that perhaps, just perhaps, I don’t want your armpit in my face. I am much shorter than you!

– When you push your way onto the tube, can you not keep your back to the door so that no one else can get on after you;

– Have you heard of the general courtesy of letting people of the train before you try to board it. I’m obviously trying to get off, stop pushing me back on;

– You are a grown man, those big white Dr Dre headphones you are wearing, don’t go with your suit and you really shouldn’t be listening to Puff Daddy.

 and finally,

– Must you eat a delicious hot whopper burger & chips on the packed Friday commuter train home. I am on a diet and hungry. The smell is killing me.

    From the heart! The headphones had me laughing out loud, I do think whatever leisure activity people choose to do on the underground is carefully selected for the impression it will make on the other commuters rather than for its actual entertainment value. Hence they brought out the Harry Potter “grown up” editions so adults would feel less self conscious reading a kids’ book on the tube.

      That is so true Judith. Didn’t the Metro do a survey once and men admitted that they would often carry classic novels on the tube and pretend to read them to attract women! Thank you for visiting and commenting x

    I’m having a hard time “following” you on WordPress. Any suggestions?
    Also, I nominated you for a WordPress Family Blog Award.

      I thought that I had fixed the ‘follow’ on the new blog but obviously not. Thank you for alerting me to it. Will get it sorted ASAP. Hope you are well xx
