Wedding planning & multitasking
As a women I can multitask. I can juggle a number of balls, normally without dropping them, for long periods of time. However, at the moment I have to say, I’m feeling the strain….there are a lot of balls and not enough hands. (No sexual innuendoes meant!)
I’m running a business, setting up a new venture, working full-time, doing the house admin, being a mother to one very active two year old boy and to top it all off, planning a wedding, which is due to take place in 13 weeks time!!
What the hell was I thinking?
Actually, I know what I was thinking, ‘there will never be a right time, just do it’.
Wrong.
There would have been a right time.
A time when I didn’t have soo much work on, a time when Baby B didn’t say No to EVERYTHING and a time when I was a perfect size 10.
That would be the time to get married.
I’ve played it cool until now, perhaps a little too cool. The sudden realisation that unless we get the wedding invites out soon and both find something to wear, it’s going to be me, my other half and a band on the big day, with me wearing my best white nighty.
Further, I was very much expecting to have lost at least a stone by now, see my previous post
‘Beginning the wedding shedding’. This, my friends, has NOT happened. Looks like I am going to have to admit defeat and actually start exercising, along with likely taking part in some sort of highly dangerous crash diet!
Newly panicked I went dress shopping this weekend. Which only increased my worry ,when the women in a number of shops I called, began hyperventilating on the phone when I corrected them that the wedding was in September 2013……….. not 2014.
I learnt that I would likely have to buy ‘off the rail’ as made to measure dresses ‘simply wouldn’t be ready’ in time. I then learnt that ‘off the rail’ means bargains and that excited me. I love a challenge and never intended on spending thousands of pounds of my hard-earned cash on a dress which I will wear only for 9 hours and very likely spill red wine down.
‘Off the rail’ for me!
Long story short, after trying on 6 dresses, I have narrowed it down to only 2. Both very reasonably priced and both ready to take, ‘off the rail’. Yippee! The final decision will be made tomorrow and that is a very big tick off my list.
So, so far the whole wedding thing has been a real eye opener. I’ve been educated in ‘fish tails’ and ‘A-lines’ and found out that there is more then one shade of white! Having spoken to the celebrant (we aren’t having a religious service), I have learnt that we can basically do whatever we want for the service. She mentioned a sand service or perhaps, and I quote, she said ‘perhaps your other half would like to sing to you’. Ummmm, no I’m ok thanks!
I am slightly feeling the pressure to add an element of surprise to the big day. You know what I mean. What with all these videos on You Tube. The Groom and his best men, suddenly breaking into a well rehearsed routine to ‘Thriller’ , or the bride singing a pitch perfect rendition of ‘I will always love you’, after a years worth of secret singing lessons.
Doesn’t help when you’re like me, who can’t sing for toffee, though I once got told I sounded like Louise from Eternal, and literally can’t do a forward role for fear of breaking my neck. Jumping is also out of the question since having Baby B.
Where’s bloody Ashley Banjo when you need him? (Yes, I googled it. They aren’t taking any more entries for the Secret Dance Crew).
All sorts of ideas are running through my head now, including incorporating my 82yr old Nan into a routine, which would definitely be impressive.
Watch this space! 🙂
So between work. I move onto sorting the invites, my other half has booked a suit appointment for this week and I finally started looking online for some inspiration and ‘last minute wedding ideas’….let the count down begin!
Any tips, websites to view or advice….please do share!
