Can the toddler see ghosts?

I’ve got a bit of a spooky one for you here!

From my mothers house, the drive to B’s old nursery takes you past a very large cemetery called Brookwood. In fact, Brookwood Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Britain and one of the largest in the world, a working cemetery for all denominations and nationalities.

The walls that surround Brookwood are high and private, obscuring the cemetery as you drive past, so from the road you wouldn’t necessarily know it what it was. My grandfather is buried in this cemetery and has been since he passed away nearly 27 years ago (Relocation isn’t as common as it was!).

Whilst we were away recently my mum, that’s Nonna to Baby B, messaged to ask me how he knew about ghosts. “He doesn’t” I replied, well certainly not that I was aware of anyway.

“Why?” I asked.

Well, it transpired that on two separate occasions, as they drove past the cemetery B said, “There’s a ghost there” and pointed to the middle of the road.

Both times he pointed to the same place and told my mum it was a man. What’s really interesting was that both times it was dark, he never said it during the day. B wasn’t sacred or concerned at either time but was very focused on ‘the man’ that he could see.

The road

This has never happened anywhere other than the road by Brookwood, therefore, I can only conclude that he has seen my Grandfather!!

On a serious note, I do believe in the whole moving on after we die, and would sincerely love to think that there is another life for us all. My late Grandmother was a spiritualist and a good one at that, very well respected in her field. She always said that her ‘powers’ (ok, well she didn’t call them powers but you know what I mean) would be taken on by someone else in the family. Perhaps B has been handed down the gift.

Will keep you updated of any further ghost related sightings. In the mean time, anyone else had such an experience? Please do share….

  1. I have totally started believing in these kinds of things when my daughter started “seeing” someone she calls Johnny. I am not totally sure if maybe it is just an imaginary friend but she talks to him often and even tells me about him, describing him as a little boy who doesn’t like her pet birds because they are too loud. I have never heard her call him a ghost though and some days I hear and see things around the house but have mostly ignored them…

I find it really fascinating. How old is your daughter? I do believe that spirits are around us and that children ‘see’ them as they don’t have any pre conceived ideas or the ability to question their beliefs yet. As long as Johnny is friendly then all is good eh. Thanks for sharing x

This is quite common for young kids. Between the ages of 0 – 6 years, they spend most of their time in Alpha, Theta brainwave cycles, which makes children very intuitive and capable of picking up other frequencies/vibrations. Animals are also very intuitive for things like this. So I do believe he is picking up something and the great thing is it’s completely normal to him. xx

Thanks Mandy, really interesting! You are right, what is so lovely is that they don’t question it. Wish we maintained that as adults x

I believe too. I remember my sons birthday 2 years ago we were praying before bed and he looked up and started waving. I asked what he was waving to and he said ‘all the people’.
I also once found him playing in the family room and exchanging a one sided conversation. I asked him what he was doing and he said, “playing with aunt Jeanie”. My great aunt had died years before my sons birth so I doubted what I had heard. Later that month we were at my mothers and he was so excited and said, “Jeanie’s here!”. My mom was shocked and asked him if he said Jeanie. He said, “Yes Jeanie with Moon.” Moon was the nickname we had given her husband who passed while I was pregnant with my son. We didn’t need any more confirmation.
Since then there were a handful of events. Unfortunately, as he’s getting older they have become few and far between.
Soak up all these experiences while they last just in case it’s not forever.
