Turn off to turn on for Earth Hour

My husband ‘alerted’ me (yes, ‘alerted’ me) to the following video from Durex (yes, Durex) about their new campaign for Earth Hour. I use the word alerted as there was a sense of urgency about it.

The video from Durex obviously struck a cord with my husband, along with the hashtag used for the campaign #turnofftoturnon. As a blogger, tweeter, tech fan and general internet obsessed person, I am often guilty of having some type of device on the go for most of my waking hours. Evenings are often spent in each others company, with me on the laptop and him on his ipad. Even during dinners out, we are both guilty of checking our phones, me on Twitter, him flicking through Instagram.

Durex are saying:

#turnofftoturnon

#turnofftoturnon

Durex are asking couples to make the change and during Earth Hour ‘See less to feel more’. Ohh, I say!

Oh man, does that mean I can’t tweet during this Earth Hour, which is essentially a blackout (during which I would normally flea to pub)?

Not only do I think that this is a rather brilliant bit of marketing from Durex, but if I am honest, it is also very true. Watch it, I am sure that you will identify with it.

Earth Hour is to take place tomorrow, 29th March at 8.30 – 9.30pm. The idea, if you aren’t aware, started as a lights out event in Australia back in 1997. Since then it has grown to become something of a grassroots movement, now involving cities across the world.

Now, I just need to find a reason to be out of the house from 8.30pm on the 29th March. Actually hold on, my husband will read this….I’m joking, darling 🙂
