Review: Bank holiday, Morrisons and a health drive

This is the first time I have been involved in any sort of big brand blogger engagement. It is exciting stuff. Twitter was over run with tweets from excited bloggers pondering what to do £80. Sadly there were guidelines, the whole shebang couldn’t be spent in the red wine aisle, but hey, food’s the next best thing!

So it is at this point that I have to hand the baton to my husband. He is the chef in our house. I am the willing sampler. 🙂 It was #morrisonsdad over here. Though I helped with the shopping.

Over the weekend we visited Morrisons twice, once to collect goods for a saturday picnic and the second time to buy ingredients for the bank holiday Monday lunch. We are on a health kick at the moment and this little bank holiday challenge hit in the middle of us being vegetarian. So whilst I stared longingly at the pork joint with crackling, the husband bagged up the broccoli.

Picnic – Approx £25 for snacky food for 5 people

Morrisions Picnic

There was a huge amount to choose from at Morrisons in the way of picnic style goods.

From the salad and fruit bars where you mix your own, to the ready cooked chickens and deli assortments.

We sampled a range, and it was all very enjoyable.

The toddler is currently going through a Watermelon stage, so he was most delighted to see a fresh slab of the good stuff in the trolley. We also sampled the strawberries and salad bars which were both fresh and tasty. The salad bar was very reasonably priced with a large tub at £2.99.

Monday lunch – Approx £30 for a lunch for 5!

The Hubby choose a traditional veggie lasagne for lunch, served with broccoli and kale. It was a great choice given the really rather great range of veggies Morrisons sell, certainly more extensive than other supermarkets. The way that the said veggies are presented is also a bonus.

We had yellow courgette in the dish which we certainly wouldn’t normally pick up and the aubergines were a must given, the shine on the beauties above.

There is no doubt that the whole shopping experience, especially with the fresh vegetables, is very atheistically pleasing. We ate approximately three meals from the £80 vouchers, feeding 5 people a time therefore, the prices certainly felt reasonable.

Morrisons are on a price slashing drive, so it is certainly worth a visit. Lets face it, every penny counts (Oh, which supermarket is that the jingle to?!)  so if could save some cash and discover some new veg, then it’s a double win.

NB – We were sent £80 worth of Morrisons vouchers for the purpose of this blog post. Thanks Morrisons and Britmums. #morrisonsdads #morrisonsmums
