When sharing a bed with someone (adult or child), there is a certain etiquette to be observed regarding the covers. Duvet etiquette! One cannot be greedy with the covers, and in turn it helps if you both want the same thing from them: essentially, to cover you up.
Our toddler, an occasional late night visitor to our bed, seems to have a problem with this.
The kid can’t stay under them! It’s like sleep walking. He has an involuntary reaction to being covered up, flapping around like a whale out of water until the covers are off and his legs are on top of them.
Problem is, when you have a person in the middle who wants to be on top of the covers, the people either side get deprived of said cover as the weight of the person in the middle drags it down, leaving you clinging onto a corner to try to cover half your body. He also, as the photos show, likes to roll up the arms and legs on his pyjamas so not only is he on top of the covers, but his limbs are exposed to the elements!
I know that this is far from a third world problem, but it is really irritating and, at this time of year, bloody cold!
I am pretty sure that the lack of covers, resulting in lack of warmth, are responsible for his early starts again. That or the recent blog post I wrote titled ‘He’s Sleeping’, which clearly brought an end to the waking at a reasonable hour. So, I am looking for ideas and clever ways to keep those covers firmly in place. Please do send any my way!
